We are looking for a Senior Staff TLM to partner with our Mapping team to deliver stable, fast, scalable solutions for the Aurora Atlas – our mapping storage and versioning system. The Atlas powers many key functions, from map update processes, test creation systems, offboard simulations, visualizations, and onboard perception and decision making. This role is ideal for those who are energized by challenging problems at the intersection of scalable backend systems, data versioning and cross team collaborations.
In this role you will:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-impact engineering team focused on development of robust mapping storage systems (both onboard and offboard) that will scale with Aurora’s mission.
- Define the technical strategy and product roadmap, overseeing execution to hit critical development milestones.
- Responsible for managing a team of experienced engineers and their career growth.
- Actively contribute to and lead key technical initiatives and architectural decisions within the mapping domain.
- Build a massively scalable, high-throughput, HD Map storage ecosystem that is utilized throughout Aurora
Required Qualifications:
- Proven manager comfortable leading people while remaining deeply technical and delivering impact
- Strong background in server-side infrastructure, data processing and distributed database systems
- Deep expertise in distributed systems principles, with a proven ability to architect and deliver scalable, reliable backend systems.
- Solid programming proficiency – strong C++ and working knowledge of Python and Go
- 8+ years total experience, with 2+ years in management leading complex projects in critical production environments
- Strong sense of ownership and ability to excel when faced with ambiguity across multiple stakeholders
- Track record of leading teams of strong engineers to solve difficult technical challenges.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with HD mapping systems in the AV industry.
- M.S. or Ph.D in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Domain experience with geospatial data, mapping systems, or high-throughput data pipelines.
- Working proficiency in Python and Golang.
The base salary range for this position is $191,000 - $306,000. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
