Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Offline Mapping Team!
The Offline Mapping team is responsible for producing high-definition (HD) maps that the Aurora Driver operates on. In this role, you will develop software for the detection, reporting, and resolution of map issues. This software is critical to the mission of Aurora, as it enables the expansion of the Aurora Driver’s operational domain.
This role operates at the intersection of multiple technologies – collaborating closely with the routing, localization, and mapping (both onboard and offboard) teams to build the central system for processing and resolving map issues.
In this role, you will
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend systems that continuously evaluate map quality, detect issues, and initiate the resolution process.
- Develop and scale the services and infrastructure that power our map evaluation and issue-reporting pipelines.
- Collaborate with engineers on routing, localization, and mapping teams to define APIs and ensure robust data integration across systems.
- Develop software in Python and C++, using modern best practices.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex issues within distributed safety-critical systems.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics or a related field
- 4+ years of industry experience building software in a production environment
- Proficiency with developing backend systems (gRPC, SQL databases) using Python
- Experience with software design, in particular in complex systems with many dependencies
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Desirable Qualifications (this section is optional)
- Prior experience with mapping systems
- Prior experience with robotics or autonomous vehicles
- Familiarity with real-time and multi-threaded systems
- Experience with C++ (Ideally C++17 or newer)
The base salary for range for this position is $146,000 - $234,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
