The Research Associate II/III will be responsible for executing small-scale protein expression and automated purification workflows using liquid handling robotics. This role supports weekly production goals by processing a defined list of plasmids, delivering quantified, pure protein for downstream applications. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills in molecular biology and protein biochemistry with attention to detail and a collaborative mindset.
As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:
- Perform recombinant protein expression in bacterial systems (e.g., E. coli) following established protocols.
- Operate and maintain liquid handling robots and other laboratory automation platforms for protein purification.
- Execute purification techniques including affinity, ion-exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography (manual and automated).
- Quantify protein yield and purity using standard analytical methods (e.g., UV/Vis, SDS-PAGE, Western blot).
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, batch documentation, and inventory of plasmids and reagents.
- Troubleshoot and optimize expression and purification protocols as needed.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to refine workflows and support process improvements.
- Communicate results clearly to team members and contribute to formal reports as required.
- Adhere to safety and quality standards in all laboratory activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
- 2–6 years of relevant laboratory experience (Research Associate II: 2+ years; Research Associate III: 4+ years preferred).
- Hands-on experience with E coli cell culture, transformation and protein expression
- Protein purification, using AKTA systems.
- Familiarity with molecular cloning, plasmid preparation, and basic molecular biology techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow SOPs and work independently within defined protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with data analysis and documentation in electronic lab notebooks is a plus.
- Experience with troubleshooting and optimizing protein expression/purification workflows is preferred.
- Familiarity with FPLC/HPLC systems and chromatography software is preferred.
- Prior exposure to high-throughput or automated laboratory environments is preferred.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond to new challenges is preferred.
The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $70,000-$85,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, level of the position, an individual’s skills, knowledge and abilities, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all full-time employees are eligible for our discretionary bonus program and equity as part of the compensation package.
