About the Job:
The Metrics Team at LaunchDarkly builds the systems that connect customer event data to core product experiences like Experimentation and Release Guardian. We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer to play a crucial role in designing and scaling the services that power these capabilities. You’ll work on systems that process high volumes of events and enable internal teams and customers to tie those events to meaningful product decisions. Our work underpins features like AI Configs, Observability, and Product Analytics. This role requires strong engineering judgment, a focus on reliability, and close collaboration with other teams. If you're excited about turning raw signals into actionable insights that help teams ship software more safely, quickly, and reliably, we want to work with you.
Responsibilities:
-
Design, build, and maintain backend services that power Experimentation and Release Guardian at scale
-
Evaluate and shape new product features from a technical perspective, identifying opportunities, tradeoffs, and implementation paths
-
Develop internal APIs that connect customer events to experimentation and release safety workflows
-
Collaborate with data pipeline teams to ensure accurate, reliable event processing and delivery
-
Partner with product and engineering teams to integrate event-driven features into products like AI Configs, Observability, and Product Analytics
-
Improve service reliability through observability, alerting, and operational tooling
-
Actively participate in code reviews, spec discussions, and architecture design
Qualifications:
-
Extensive experience with server-side programming (preferably Golang)
-
Strong proficiency in building and maintaining RESTful APIs
-
Solid understanding of core CS concepts: data structures, distributed systems, concurrency, and threading
-
Familiarity with event ingestion and querying across technologies like ClickHouse, Postgres, ElasticSearch, Timestream, Snowflake, or Glue/Iceberg/S3
-
Experience working with stream and batch processing tools such as Kinesis, Airflow, Spark, Lambda, Flink, or Athena (or equivalents)
-
Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform (or equivalent)
-
Proficiency with observability tools such as Datadog (or equivalent)
Nice to Have:
-
Experience with CI/CD tooling like Spinnaker or CircleCI (or equivalents)
-
Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks, experimentation platforms, or statistical methods for measuring feature performance

About LaunchDarkly:
Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences are preventing developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.
The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:
- Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
- Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
- Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
- Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
- Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability
