We’re searching for a Software Engineer ll, Data Management.

In this role, you will

  • Be comfortable working with the PB scale of dataset (optical, lidar, and radar modalities) and abstraction layer of the storage system (S3, etc), championing engineering excellence by continuously optimizing the systems and processes with SLO/SLA in mind.
  • Leverage the cutting edge cloud technologies to own, architect, implement, and test scalable distributed data framework in the cloud. 
  • Design and optimize user interfaces that empower end-users to manage and optimize their data through APIs.
  • Be a force multiplier across a diverse set of hardware and software engineers and proactively work together with stakeholders to achieve cross-departmental goals and satisfy company OKR.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/MS or PhD in Computer Science or a related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience with a track record of shipping production code
  • Strong programming skills in GoLang/Python—ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code
  • Practical backend systems knowledge: networking, API design, system security, gRPC, and performance optimization
  • Production experience with AWS (S3, DynamoDB) and cloud-native development
  • Database expertise: schema design, scalability, and performance tuning
  • Experience with workflow orchestration (Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines)

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in C++ (bonus, not required)
  • Experience with distributed systems/microservices at scale
  • Tenacity for tearing apart complex systems and rebuilding them pragmatically
  • Ability to own a dedicated technical area while contributing across the stack
  • Strong debugging skills—navigating large codebases and optimizing performance
  • Passion for robust, high-performance code without over-engineering
  • Interest in growing into broader ownership (architecture, cross-team collaboration)

The base salary range for this position is $126,000-$201,000 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
