Interview Process

1. Virtual interview with a recruiter short open-book multiple choice technical skills quiz. 2. Virtual interview with a senior engineer that includes a pairing session to debug some Javascript code and a virtual interview with the engineering manager that includes reviewing the quiz answers. 3. A short real-world take-home project w/ follow-up debrief. 4. Final interviews with the CEO/Founder and another Product team lead. 5. Optionally, a virtual meal with potential co-workers.

Our Engineering Team
We are a small, fully-remote engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a user-facing, industry-leading application and multiple internal tools. Our team has been hugely impactful because we:

Who we’re looking for:
As Goalbook is growing, we see an opportunity to build a team dedicated to DevOps, security, and infrastructure. We are looking for a highly technically-skilled, hands-on, human-centered leader to help build this function and new team. 
Our ideal candidate is excited to create and maintain fast, reliable, scalable, and secure systems that delight your fellow developers, our customer support and success team members, and, most of all, our users. You’re just as excited to create a new fast, reliable, and happy team of engineers that value diversity, inclusion, cooperation and collaboration.

You have:
- 5+ years of experience in roles such as DevOps, Site Reliability, or Infrastructure engineer
- 3+ years as a top-level engineer
- 2+ years managing a diverse team of direct reports
- Experience in education or educational technology

In your experience as a senior engineer, you have:
- Proven ability deploying, testing, managing, and monitoring cloud-based services in a production environment
- Optimized modern data storage solutions to meet specific needs
- Proficiency with VCS, CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, testing frameworks, and Infrastructure as Code
- In-depth knowledge of best practices of security, performance, monitoring, automation, escalation, and site reliability
- Full-stack web application development experience
- The ability to communicate effectively for technical and non-technical audiences.

In your experience as an engineering manager, you have:
- Cultivated relationships of trust and care with each of their direct reports
- Identified areas of strength and growth in each engineer and created systems of individual and collective learning and growth
- Improved processes, methodologies, and infrastructure that improved their team’s motivation, productivity, quality, and reliability in objective and measurable ways

Technical Responsibilities
- Enhance our CI/CD processes and systems operations to improve efficiency, observability, latency, scalability, security and reliability
- Shape product and technical strategy in collaboration with your manager and cross-functional team leaders to serve our mission
- Provide hands-on technical guidance to individual engineers through insightful code reviews, pairing, direct teaching and coaching
- Serve as a technical lead on high-risk and complex projects
- Investigate and evaluate new technologies and tools and develop proofs-of-concept

People Responsibilities
- Build and manage a high-functioning, diverse team of engineers that achieves data-driven results to support our mission
- Develop relationships built on care and trust with each member of your team
- Grow your team’s skill set and support each engineer’s advancement in their career
- Provide open and honest communication and thoughtful feedback to individuals and your team
