About the role:

We are looking for a motivated, highly creative, and strategic design leader who is passionate about pushing the boundaries of design to rise above the mundane. Working within Marketing and reporting to the Creative Director, you’ll join our amazing team of designers, strategists, producers, filmmakers, and copywriters. In this role, you’ll manage, mentor, and inspire a team of brand designers to help elevate and evolve the way we communicate our brand to the world. 

You will manage a defined set of brand design objectives and outcomes. You will oversee the planning and execution of a myriad of design projects from stakeholders across the organization. You will serve as a Samsara brand guardian to maintain consistency with every project to ensure alignment with our brand guidelines and design best practices. Initiatives include projects ranging in scope, media channel, and audience, from digital, like social media and web, to print, like trade show booths and OOH advertising campaigns. The ideal candidate is obsessed with design excellence and stresses the details, is a passionate leader, and an effective communicator across all levels of the organization.

In this role, you will: 

  • Work closely with the Creative Director and other creative leaders on conceptual development, design and execution across key marketing briefs
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire brand designers to execute strategy/roadmap
  • Partner with creative and cross-functional teams to diagnose, recommend, and deliver effective design solutions
  • Solve standard and complex design problems and requirements
  • Spearhead and/or collaborate with a variety of vendors depending on the project
  • Have a clear understanding of project briefs and the ability to craft thoughtful design solutions
  • Articulate and present ideas clearly and concisely; accept constructive feedback and execute against it efficiently
  • Ensure the consistency of the brand and highest quality of design across all projects
  • Have a natural curiosity and passion to learn about and share insights on design and industry trends
  • Work on problems of diverse scope where evaluation of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions 
  • Network with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise
  • Oversee the interview and hiring process for design talent
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 6+ years experience in art direction and design in a creative agency or client-side group; B2B / tech experience is a plus
  • BA/BFA in Art, Design, a related field or equivalent experience required 
  • Proficient in Google Slides, Keynote, PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, Social Media designs (Paid + Organic Ads) and creation of Zoom backgrounds
  • Extraordinary design skills; top-notch portfolio of work
  • Strong understanding of page layout and graphic design principles
  • Strong storyteller (understands how messaging and visuals work together)
  • Knowledge of the production process; ability to collaborate with 3rd party vendors
  • Ability to design soft goods (shirts, hats, bags) and large-scale items for events (stages, window clings, banners)
  • Strong communication presentation skills; proven ability to present to executives/leaders
  • Solid knowledge of all aspects of creative across channels and mediums, especially print and digital

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles.  For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. 

We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
