About the role:

You will be the leader of the Kong SRE Operation team. Site Reliability Engineering combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. The SRE team ensures that Kong’s cloud services have reliability and uptime appropriate to customers’ needs. The SRE team also keeps an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity, performance, security and cost efficiency or our AWS, Azure, GCP resources and K8s Clusters. 

As an Operation Engineering Manager, you'll lead and grow a distributed team and be responsible for providing technical leadership to key projects, and empowering and developing the team members to do the same.
You and your team will build, operate, and continuously improve the Kong Konnect cloud gateway platform.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Building software and systems to manage infrastructure and customer-facing applications through automation on K8s and AWS/GCP/Azure.
  • Scale Kong cloud and web services to hundreds of thousands of customers.
  • Managing through uncertainty and partnering closely with development teams to design, build, deploy, support, and monitor new and existing Kong cloud services.
  • Measuring and optimizing service performance, availability, capacity planning and change management
  • Hire, mentor and maintain healthy engineers who value collaboration and innovation 
  • and work closely with the rest of the product engineering team to deliver novel software solutions to customer problems.
  • Give constructive feedback to Engineers, conduct 1:1’s, perform performance reviews and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Suggest guidelines, principles and processes to improve the Engineering org.
  • Assure high quality work and SLO adherence.

  • What you’ll bring:
  • Over all 10+ years of Industry experience.
  • 2+ years of Eng management experience.
  • 2+ year of experience running 24/7 operations with follow the sun support model
  • 4+ years of AWS/GCP/Azure and K8s operation experience, including hands-on-keyboard contributions especially with infrastructure as code stack like Terraform and ArgoCD.
  • Experience managing remote teams, doing reviews, hiring, comp.
  • Experience with K8s, Docker, AWS,GCP, Azure, Postgresql, ElasticSearch, Redis, DataDog.
  • Experience running and supporting Saas web applications at scale including monitoring, distributed tracing.
