Firmware Quality Engineer

Samsara's Quality Engineering (QE) team uses test engineering processes and data analysis to drive product quality so that our customers can realize the full benefits of our platform offering. In addition to testing the product, the QE team seeks to cultivate a quality culture that produces best-in-class product reliability, usability, and performance across all of our product development teams.

We're looking for a self-driven firmware quality engineer to join our fast-growing Smart Trailers and Connected Equipment team and be responsible for ensuring the quality of our asset gateway and sensor product lines.

In this role, you will:

• Partner with your QE lead, firmware development team, and product teams to define quality goals, expand test coverage, and ensure high-quality firmware releases
• Work closely with firmware engineers to understand architecture, break it into functional parts, and come up with a plan to test, validate and identify issues
• Create and maintain comprehensive and effective test suites
• Implement tests in our automation framework to help us scale
• Run systems-level manual and automated in-house acceptance tests to detect defects and regressions in our devices
• Rapidly diagnose issues and perform root cause analysis with firmware, backend, and full stack developers

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field, electrical or computer engineering preferred
• 5+ years of experience in a quality engineering function
• Working experience with automated test environments and manual test beds
• Proven abilities in effective low-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
• Experience testing embedded systems, microcontrollers, and sensors
• Experience building and/or working with automated testing frameworks
• Strong communication skills, comfortable working with distributed teams

An ideal candidate also has:

• Proficiency with scripting and querying languages: Python, SQL
• Experience using hardware debugging tools
• Experience working in high growth fast-paced organizations
