About the team & opportunity

What’s so great about working on Calendly’s Engineering team? We solve pain points for our customers through impactful innovation, and have fun while we’re at it.

Why do we need you? We are looking for a staff architect with strong experience in high performance web services, and who will bring architectural wisdom, product thinking, and enthusiasm to our team.

A day in the life of a Staff Architect at Calendly

As a Staff Architect at Calendly, you enjoy building products end-to-end and coding the full stack. You are proactive, product-minded, and empathetic. Your team comes to you with their blockers, knowing you can help them reason through their thought process and come to a well-balanced solution. You do the above with genuine respect and curiosity, and a commitment to quality.

You and your team members impact every aspect of development, from design to delivery to maintenance. You write well-tested software and are a reliable mentor for your teammates. You are comfortable working in a wide array of technologies and languages. You work closely with Product Managers and Product Designers to inform roadmap decisions, and support your Engineering Manager in keeping an eye on cross-team dependencies.

On a typical day, you will be working on:

  • Building composable services and writing and reviewing code written in Go, Node (TypeScript), Ruby, and/or Python
  • Designing, implementing, and advising on performant solutions for a scalable API, such as rate-limiting, access controls, etc.
  • Emphasizing a great user experience through your architectural designs
  • Thinking about novel insights and patterns in meeting content
  • Acting as a sounding board and trusted second set of eyes for your peers
  • Bonus: experience with ML models to process object graphs and time series data, experience building complex integrations for external products

What do we need from you?

  • 8+ years of experience of software development experience at a SaaS or technology company
  • Above all, you have a track record of rapidly learning new languages and technologies to get the job done; your secret weapon is adaptability
  • You thrive on ambiguity; a lack of explicit direction is empowerment and freedom to shape the solution
  • You've built modular, composable service architectures using Python, Go or Node and a variety of back-end data stores
  • You look forward to collaborating with your peers in a small engineering team, biased in favor of results over process
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time

Ready to make a serious impact? Millions of people already rely on Calendly’s products, and we’re still in the midst of our growth curve — it’s a phenomenal time to join us.
