Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

In this role, you’d be joining the Workplace team which is part of the broader People and Places organization. The team’s mission is to build and support work environments that are welcoming, comfortable, and intuitive; supportive of collaboration, wellbeing, and productivity; and centered around the rigorous safety, security, and confidentiality we employ as a financial services company.

What you’ll do

We're looking for an organized, flexible, and detail-oriented person who's enthusiastic about building and owning Stripe’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program which is both best-in-class and scalable for the rapid growth of the company. You’ll own the development and management of all environmental health and safety policies, practices, programs, and management systems that have a significant impact on the organization and all Stripes. This is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to be both a creator and long term owner – using their expertise to shape the global EHS program of Stripe for years to come.

Responsibilities

  • Be the lead, both strategically and tactically, for Stripe’s global EHS Program as the subject matter expert on developing environmental health and safety policies, requirements, best practices, procedures, and management systems that have a significant impact on the organization.
  • Develop and implement EHS management systems aligned with OHSAS 45001, ISO 14001 or similar.
  • Set goals for the EHS function and measure performance to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present routine updates and results of EHS key performance indicators suitable for executive presentation.
  • Organize and facilitate site inspections and audits at all Stripe offices globally to evaluate risk and compliance, identify findings and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Develop EHS incident reporting and investigation systems and procedures aimed at identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the incident investigation process, including cause analysis, identification of corrective action plans and ensuring applicable governmental reporting requirements are satisfied.
  • Develop effective emergency response plans with key stakeholders, ensuring these are validated through rigorous testing.
  • Research, interpret and provide expert guidance on the impacts of all current and potential regulations that would influence company policy.
  • Execution and evolution of health and safety plans, programs, and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and company policies and standards
  • Recommend language for policies and procedures that align with company policies and regulatory compliance, as well as regulations and standards set forth by external governing agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety policies and regulations of all applicable government entities.
  • Complete regulatory reports and represent Stripe before regulatory bodies ( OSHA, DOT, EPA, and State/Local Regulators) where required.
  • Develop effective cross collaborative partnerships and trust relationships that drive EHS participation and implementation across the company.
  • Lead the development of EHS training programs for Stripe.
  • Define and manage the global ergonomics program.
  • Own EHS vendor management, ensuring pragmatic vendor implementation that is applied efficiently, effectively and within cost scope.
  • Regularly monitor changes in the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Plan and manage the annual EHS budget and ensure fiscal compliance.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements

  • 4 Year degree in Occupational or Environmental Safety or associated field.
  • 5+ years’ global experience in Environment, Health, and Safety
  • 5+ years’ experience managing multi-disciplinary and complex projects
  • Experience building global EHS Programs from the ground up
  • Have or working towards CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, or CHMM certification
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Experience with HAZWOPER and RCRA, as well as EPA and OSHA regulations
  • Knowledge of global safety and/or environmental regulations preferred
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to successfully operate in a fast-evolving environment with minimal supervision
