Osmind is the premier platform for clinicians and researchers advancing new life-saving mental health treatments. Today, mental health disorders are one of the leading causes of death worldwide, especially among young adults, and are tied to shortening lifespans. While there have been developments in new psychiatric medications since the first FDA approval in 1954, today there is a growing movement among clinicians, patients, and researchers who are recognizing the need to accelerate new science.

The Osmind treatment platform is the first and only solution that solves specific challenges faced by neuropsychiatric clinics, spanning general psychiatry and interventional psychiatry (transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine, SPRAVATO®, psychedelic medicine, electroconvulsive therapy). The core electronic health record (EHR) technology is precisely developed for interventional treatment workflows and designed to support a strong therapeutic alliance, including journaling tools and assistance with health plan reimbursement, which is a significant access hurdle for millions of patients.

Research from our platform is already helping to set new standards for mental health interventions. For example, in the largest published real-world analysis of ketamine infusion therapy for depression, we teamed up with Stanford University School of Medicine to share findings in the Journal of Affective Disorders (March 2022). We have multiple ongoing research studies leveraging our proprietary real-world data, including an even larger ketamine analysis leveraging machine learning to predict treatment outcomes.

Osmind is a San Francisco–based public benefit corporation led by scientists, technologists, and psychiatrists. We are backed by top investors including DFJ Growth, General Catalyst, Future Ventures, Tiger Global, and Y Combinator.

The opportunity

We are a series B funded Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) building something that actually moves the needle on the global mental health crisis. (See here for an article our cofounder Jimmy wrote about PBC’s.)

We are looking for a Quantitive Scientist to lead statistical analyses for projects in our Biosciences division. Our Real World Data (RWD) engine is powered by our electronic health record and mobile application for patient-reported outcomes. In our 2 years since launch, we’ve accumulated one of the largest and most unique behavioral health datasets in the world. As a Quantitative Scientist, you will report directly into the Data Science Lead and help set the standard for biostatistics and data science at Osmind.

To share more about our company, our mission, our values, what it’s like working with us, and our interview process, we’ve put together this presentation for you.

Note: Osmind is a remote first, office encouraged workplace. While we would like to continue hiring local talent in the SF Bay Area, we are also open to remote candidates within the United States.
What you'll do
  • Be an active member of the cross-functional Biosciences team. Collaborate closely with our clinical research and Life Sciences business development leads to plan and deliver on high-priority research initiatives with Osmind RWD.
  • Conduct ongoing exploratory analyses of real-world data to assess feasibility of specific research initiatives. Explore opportunities to provide insights leading to new data products and improvements to our core product.
  • Provide scientific and statistical expertise in real-world data in discussion with life science partners. Prepare protocols, statistical analysis plans and execute high-quality statistical analyses on treatment outcomes, treatment utilization patterns, and comparative effectiveness research.
  • Contribute to real-world evidence and advance treatment guidelines for breakthrough therapies for treatment-resistant conditions like intravenous ketamine, Spravato, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.
  • Prepare abstracts and oral communications for presentation at scientific conferences and meetings with prospective Life Sciences partners. Be the lead representative for biostatistics and clinical research analysis at Osmind.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product Development on development of new product features and integrations to increase the quality and breadth of data capture. Understand the scientific impact of new data features and work with Product Development to prioritize our data roadmap accordingly.
  • What we're looking for
  • Masters or PhD in quantitative discipline such as applied statistics, biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, health economics outcomes research, or a related discipline
  • 4+ years full-time work experience conducting quantitative research in industry, consulting, or academic settings
  • Experience writing analysis protocols and conducting statistical analyses on sources of clinical data collected from human subjects, such as electronic health records, claims databases, observational studies, or clinical trials. Methodological expertise in statistical analysis of observational data.
  • Experience interpreting and describing results in reports and preparing formal scientific communications such as manuscripts, abstract, and presentations.
  • 2+ years using open-source programming languages (Python, R) for data cleaning, statistical analyses, data visualization, and generating reports
  • Experience using SQL to query databases to build analysis samples
  • Experience collaborating closely with subject matter experts to refine project scope and generate tightly-defined, testable research questions given the available data
  • Excellent data intuition and data communication skills. Ability to communicate findings to both internal and external stakeholders and quickly align on next steps.
  • Strong understanding of reproducible research patterns and experience with version control tools
  • Awareness of machine learning principles, such as cross-validation, feature selection, hyperparameter tuning, and model selection
  • Preferred experience
  • Applied quantitative experience and related domain expertise in psychiatry, neuroscience, or similar mental health discipline
  • Experience working in a life sciences company, clinical research organization, or academic research environment with life sciences industry collaborations.
  • Experience designing and executing analyses using real world data
  • Intermediate or advanced SQL skills
  • Experience using machine-learning to build predictive models for clinically-relevant use cases
  • What we offer
  • The ability to build something that actually moves the needle on our generation's biggest crisis, mental healthcare. Serve treatment-resistant mental health patients (1/3 of mental health patient population) who are the ones who need the most help. Contribute to one of the most innovative areas of medicine: frontier neuropsychiatry
  • An all-star team that is intellectually rigorous, highly collaborative, deeply caring, and likes to have fun. We also value diversity of thought and background.
  • Tremendous growth opportunity and autonomy given we're a high-growth startup.
  • Flexible working hours to match your style.
  • Competitive, upside-heavy compensation, healthcare, 401K matching, and office perks
  • Generous relocation bonus for those needing to move to San Francisco
  • The reasonably estimated national salary range for this position is between $115,000-$170,000, plus an equity package for eligible employees. Actual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and local cost of labor. In addition, Osmind offers a wide range of comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits including healthcare, dental, vision, generous family leave, FSA/DCFSA, mental health benefits, a 401(k) plan and match, and flexible paid time off.

Some candidates may see the list above and feel discouraged because they don't match all the items. Please apply anyway: there's a good chance you also have important skills we’ve missed! We are committed to diversity and building an equitable and inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and experiences, and we're taking steps to meet that commitment. We especially encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply, including women, underrepresented people of color, LGBTQ+ people, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Osmind is a public benefit corporation and platform for clinicians and researchers advancing new life-saving mental health treatments. We recently published our first Public Benefit Report that chronicles how our team of scientists, technologists, and psychiatrists have been working to help solve the worldwide mental health crisis, advance responsible innovation and research, and help ensure robust access to care for patients of all backgrounds.
