We’re searching for a Summer 2023 Lidar R&D Engineering Intern. 

The Lidar R&D team investigates architectures and systems for the next-generation of FirstLight lidar sensors. To accomplish this the Lidar R&D team focuses on free-space optics, coherent optical propagation and interaction with the environment, and lidar signal processing theoretically, experimentally, and in simulation.  

The intern will actively contribute to these efforts by assisting in the modeling, simulation, and testing of coherent optical beam propagation. Depending on the intern’s interests and background, the project can be customized to maximize their impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or Material Science with an emphasis on optics or photonics with a graduation date between December 2023 - May 2024
  • Hands-on experience with optical propagation
  • Familiarity with Zeemax, CodeV, or OSLO ray tracing programs
  • Passion for solving challenging, impactful problems as part of a team, and a "win together" mindset

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience designing optical lens systems for imaging or laser applications
  • Experience characterizing laser beams and/or lidar measurements

Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship (CPT/OPT are both acceptable). Aurora does not offer J-1 visa sponsorship for interns. 

Hourly Rate

The base hourly pay rate for this internship is as follows:

$39.50 per hour for interns pursuing an undergraduate degree;
$42.00 per hour for interns pursuing a master’s degree; and
$50.50 per hour for interns pursuing a doctoral degree.
