We’re searching for a Summer 2023 Silicon Photonics Engineering Intern.
The Photonic and Integrated Circuit Solutions (PICS) team leverages cutting-edge integrated photonics technology to improve the scalability and performance of our FirstLight lidar sensor. To accomplish these goals, the PICS team is actively engaging in work on silicon photonics, III-V photonics, packaging, and electronics design.
The intern will actively contribute to these efforts by assisting in the modeling, simulation, and design of the silicon photonic chips used in Aurora’s integrated-photonics-based lidar. Depending on the intern’s interests and background, the project can be customized to maximize their impact on and exposure to the exciting work being done in the PICS group at Aurora.
- Actively pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or Material Science with an emphasis on Integrated Photonics
- Hands-on experience with optical propagation in guided and unguided media
- Familiarity with Lumerical FDTD and Mode
- Passion for solving challenging, impactful problems as part of a team, and a "win together" mindset
- Experience designing passive and/or active integrated photonic devices
- Experience in numerical modeling for electromagnetics
The base hourly pay rate for this internship is as follows:
$63.00 per hour for interns pursuing a doctoral degree.
Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship (CPT/OPT are both acceptable). Aurora does not offer J-1 visa sponsorship for interns.
