About the Job:

Reporting to the VP, Credit & Risk, you will be accountable for the credit risk for our various credit lending programs. This role requires a deep understanding of the commercial underwriting processes for Commercial Cards, Bill Payments, International Reimbursements, and unique credit risk related to B2B Payments products and a hands-on experience setting up decisioning (criteria and processes), analyzing/forecasting portfolio performance, and developing levers that mitigate risk.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, define, measure, and build effective strategies for managing credit risk related to B2B credit products.
  • Define, manage, and own the underwriting criteria and processes. This includes determining eligibility, loan/line size at acquisition, and line management over product lifecycle.
  • Work the Product and Engineering teams to implement new and innovative credit risk management products.
  • Maintain contact and regularly interact with our customers to effectively manage credit products offered to them.
  • Support the VP in managing the funding arrangements of our credit products.
  • Research emerging underwriting trends to innovate on decisioning systems and policies.
  • Develop and maintain credit loss forecasting; share key learnings periodically and revisit credit strategies/loss forecasts using those key learnings.
  • Work with Product in ensuring a seamless customer experience — during underwriting as well as portfolio management.
  • Work with other teams (Product, Customer Success, and Sales) to build and grow a profitable product offering within managed credit risk appetite.
  • Work with other teams (Product, Customer Success, and Sales) to help them identify risks related to new and innovative B2B payment products.
  • Ensure acquisition and portfolio risk management execution in a compliant manner in partnership with General Counsel.
  • Support the VP in building and implementing an enterprise risk management program.
  • Build a Dashboard for Senior Management for effective decision making.
  • Build regular reporting of our credit portfolio for senior management and the board.

About You:

  • Must have 5–10 years of experience in commercial underwriting.
  • Must be willing to work US business hours if domiciled outside of North American time zones.
  • Must have hands-on experience managing different aspects of credit risk (credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring) for mid-size to early enterprise customers in the US.
  • Must have experience setting up decisioning criteria, handling decisioning processes, and customer communications.
  • Must have experience with data analytics using common tools like SQL, Tableau, Metabase, and other relational databases.
  • Experience working with third-party data sources, like credit bureaus and KYC providers is an asset.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations (like FCRA, Reg Z, UDAAP) for consumer and commercial lending in the US is an asset.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in high-growth startups or on early-stage products within a large organization is an asset.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 3-5 employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Airbase's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding employees as appropriate; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
