Our interns are integrated members of the engineering teams they join, where they will participate in our weekly engineering planning meetings and contribute using the same engineering planning, review, and testing processes as our employees. This provides an opportunity for interns to learn how commercial software is written. We value our interns for their injection of new ideas, new perspectives, and it gives us a chance to meet students and prospective future employees.
We are looking for interns to join the IOx team (IOx is InfluxData’s latest-generation database storage and query engine).
We will provide structure, definition of goals, process, relationships, community, and a breadth of mentoring experiences to give students the best chance to succeed at their projects. Our mentors range from CS BAs to CS PhDs.
What you'll be doing:
- Developing software for our commercial or open-source database projects
- Pair with teammates to deliver well structured production code with automated tests
- Regularly participate in code reviews and design discussions
- Pairing with teammates and participating in site reliability infrastructure and operations tasks
What you bring to the table
- Experience programming a database OR experience programming in Rust (we will train you in either if you have strong C++ skills)
- In progress or recently completed undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science or related field, or participation in a relevant coding bootcamp
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Technical curiosity and a strong desire to learn and improve
Bonus points:
- Contributions to any open source project
- Working knowledge of Git (and GitHub)
- Comfortable navigating Unix/Linux systems via terminal
- Knowledge of cloud and cloud-adjacent infrastructure and operation functions (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
It’s not expected that you’ll have deep expertise in every dimension above, but you should be interested in learning any of the areas that are less familiar to you.
InfluxData takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into two zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The offered starting salary will be determined based on the candidate’s job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Ranges are evaluated on a periodic basis and are subject to change at the Company’s discretion.
The range for this position is $32-35 an hour
