About Us
Primary is a gender-non-prescriptive, inclusive kids clothing brand started by Galyn Bernard and Christina Carbonell in 2015. The company was founded on the idea that kids clothing should be affordable, feel amazing, and be free of logos and slogans so that all kids can truly shine. Our customers are incredibly passionate about our mission, leading to strong repeat metrics and one of the highest NPS scores in the industry (85+). We are laser-focused on building a strong, sustainable and profitable (!!) business, and hiring the best people to help us get there. Our company values kind and thoughtful self-starters who can think strategically and then work collaboratively with people across the organization to produce high-quality outcomes. We are also a very change-friendly group of people, and are always seeking fresh points of view to uncover ways we can improve our products, processes and team culture.

About the Role

Primary’s EPD (Engineering, Product, Design) team loves to collaborate, encourages curiosity, values empathy, and deeply cares about the customer experience. We’re looking for a Software Engineer who will support a growing business and understands that a diversity of perspective and experience are key to building great products.

In this role you’ll work on both internal tools as well as customer-facing features - an entire feature often includes both. The work you encounter will vary - from delivering new features that live on top of Shopify’s API to building and maintaining new and existing services that will help our internal teams work more efficiently.

This role will report to Lindsey Jacks. The role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the US.
We’re looking for someone who
  • Has at least 1+ years of professional experience writing and maintaining production-level applications.
  • Is comfortable working across the stack - we use React, Typescript, Jest, Remix, Liquid, CSS/SCSS, and Ruby on Rails.
  • Has experience with e-commerce, apparel, or Shopify.
  • Believes that good product development depends on diversity, collaboration, communication, and empathy.
  • Is pragmatic - you put the customer first and strike a strong balance building the best possible customer experiences within engineering constraints.
  • Can communicate verbally and in writing, across different kinds of audiences. We regularly collaborate with peers on non-technical teams, such as merchandising, planning, support, logistics, and more!
  • Has experience working collaboratively with designers and product managers to come up with optimal solutions.
  • Would like to participate in the product development process, from start to finish.
  • Believes in blameless culture and assumes positive intent - we’re all doing the best we can, given the resources we have.
  • Not Requirements (but let us know if you have any of these!)
  • Has experience developing on Shopify or building Shopify integrations
  • Has experience with Cloudflare and AWS
  • Has experience with and/or have been an advocate for accessibility (a11y)
  • Base salary range: $120,000 - $140,000

If you fit this description and are interested in joining our team, we would love to hear from you! We welcome all qualified candidates who are currently eligible to work full-time in the United States for any employer to apply.

Primary is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all candidates and employees. To request an accommodation at any point in the interview process, please email hr@primary.com.
