GitHub is the home for software development, where developers collaborate to build some of the world's most important software. The storage of the various assets that power developer collaboration is a key issue to solve in order to enable developers to store and consume assets during their SDLC. At GitHub, we want to give the community the tools it needs to store all the assets we all depend on.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Object Storage team you will be a part of the team that builds abstractions to store various different sources of data across many of Github’s services. You will help guarantee the availability of stored assets to be written and accessed in the various GitHub deployment models, from github.com to GitHub Enterprise Server. 

Responsibilities

  • Write highly performant features for storing and retrieving assets at GitHub scale, petabytes of data are stored and accessed millions of times a day. 
  • You will be the technical lead within the team, expected to build scalable solutions to difficult problems related to storing various assets at github.
  • Help us architect the best solutions to store and access data, when and how to best cache assets
  • Engage with storage and CDN providers to create solutions that are “invisible” to our developers

Minimum Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in distributed backend systems
  • Experience in taking a large, highly visible project through established milestones to meet organizational deliverables

Nice to Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Significant experience with Ruby, Go, Java, etc
  • Experience with ElasticSearch
  • Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers
  • Providing significant technical leadership on projects
  • Experience with a public cloud provider (Azure, etc)

Minimum salary of $104,400.00 to maximum $234,300.00 

At GitHub certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. 


Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the United States or onsite in one of GitHub’s U.S. offices (San Francisco, Bellevue, Raleigh).
