The Role

We’re looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer to help us build and shape DevTools, to unblock every developer in the world. 
In this role, you'll join our Onboarding team.

This team owns the user journey for new Buildkite customers across all products with a focus on data-driven decision-making and experimentation.

As the team’s Staff Engineer, you’ll help drive the team's technical direction. You’ll work closely with other teams at Buildkite to deliver on our mission to help new customers quickly and easily integrate Buildkite’s products and empower them to build great things. 

On a typical day, you could be...

• Providing technical mentoring and coaching, working closely with engineers to reach their full potential
• Collaborating asynchronously via Basecamp with design and product team members on crafting upcoming features or fixes.
• Working on our Ruby on Rails (majestic) monolith, which embraces PostgreSQL for the database, and Rails HTML views, React, GraphQL and
Relay for the frontend.
• Jumping on video calls with your teammates to discuss and solve problems. Or to just say hi.
• Guiding non-functional design elements in solutions; including security, scalability and performance, monitoring and alerting, analytics,
documentation and quality
• Championing and driving engineering principles and practices; including assisting in the implementation of new standards, technologies or
methodologies
• Responding to an incident as part of the team’s 24/7 on-call roster (our teams own the software they build and are responsible for supporting
its operability)

Skills and experience we like...

• Experience leading, mentoring and coaching technical specialists and embedding a culture of continuous improvement
• The ability to architect, design and implement customer-focused technology products
• Confident in your knowledge of Ruby on Rails and React, and their surrounding ecosystems.'Nice-to-have' exposure to Golang, TypeScript or
Flow.
• Enjoy collaborating within a cross-functional team of technical specialists, including design and product to achieve high-quality, beautiful
work.
• Believe in quality code, knowing how to balance your high standards with the problems you are solving and external constraints.
• Loves owning problems, through collaboration with your team, initiating experiments, analysing data, and building fit-for-purpose solutions
with the end user front and centre of your mind
• Great communication, influencing and coaching skills with the ability to explain complex ideas and solve problems
• A leader that values empathy and kindness when articulating your ideas and feelings when writing or speaking.
• Comfortable working remotely and taking the initiative when team members are offline.
