The Team

The Engineering team is responsible for building innovative features and resilient systems that bring people together. We're always experimenting with new features to engage with our members. Although we are a high-scale tech company, the member-to-engineer ratio is very high—making the level of impact each engineer gets to have at Tinder enormous.

The Trust & Safety at Tinder is responsible for systems, algorithms, and policies that keep Tinder and its members safe. The machine learning team is a multi-disciplinary team of machine learning engineers and anti-abuse analysts, and is responsible for detecting and remediating bad actors, detecting policy violations, and building safety product features.

This is a hybrid role and requires in-office collaboration twice per week. This position is located in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and/or Palo Alto, CA.
In this role you will:
  • Lead the multi-disciplinary team of ML engineers and anti-abuse analysts
  • Define and be responsible for the objectives and metrics for the team; devise a development strategy and roadmap
  • Partner with the T&S Policy, Product, and Engineering teams
  • Build, lead and mentor members of your team reach their full potential
  • You'll need:
  • 2+ years of experience leading machine learning engineering teams
  • Experience in designing and building highly scalable distributed ML models
  • Ability to encourage, mentor and empower the team to go above and beyond
  • PhD, MS or BS in machine learning, computer science, statistics or other highly quantitative fields
  • Nice to have:
  • Prior experience in the Trust & Safety domain.
  • In-depth knowledge of deep neural networks, classification techniques, computer vision, natural language processing.
  • Proficiency in deep learning framework: Tensorflow, Keras, etc.
  • Experience with big data frameworks: Spark, Hadoop etc.
  • Experience with AWS.

  • The salary range for this position is $205,000 - $250,000.  Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in California. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
