The Role
Loom is seeking passionate media software engineers to join our Core Media team to build efficient, reliable, and capable media infrastructures to unlock the power of Loom. You can find out more about how the Core Media team operates, what we're currently working on, and how we envision the future.
The small-and-mighty core media team builds the media technology directly responsible for the magical experience that Loom is known for. As the tech lead of this team, you will be leading the team in building innovative media features powering our product experience of Loom creation, editing, and viewing. You will be driving cross-functional projects, strongly influencing the roadmap charting the future of Loom.
Responsibilities
- Architect and build the server-side and client-side infrastructure that enables engineering teams to create world-class video messaging products.
- Design and implement innovative media features that delight our users and differentiate Loom's products and services from our competitors.
- Be the thought leader for technical design and cultivate innovation by driving cross-functional, cross-team collaboration and execution.
- Display strong ownership and influence over the team's roadmap and, therefore, significantly impact the company's strategy.
- Identify opportunities and drive critical initiatives to improve our media infrastructure to drive down operation and engineering costs.
- Uphold a high standard of engineering excellence. Mentors and grows other team members on engineering best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Has knowledge of mainstream media codecs and container formats (VP8/x264/AAC/HLS etc.).
- Has deep expertise in developing cloud service and media streaming technologies.
- Proven track record of taking on ambiguous problems in a multi-faceted product across multiple platforms, operating systems, and programming languages.
- Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with a high degree of autonomy.
- Able to lead substantial technical efforts, often across multiple teams, and help maintain inter-team cohesion towards a unified business goal
- Hands-on technical leadership experience in setting technical directions. Able to lead teams and projects.
- Ability to readily learn most technologies on the go.
