1. Programming/debugging phone screen 2. On-site with your own laptop/setup and full access to internet. Interviews include systems design, 45 min practical coding question, integrating an API exercise, debugging, and talking with hiring manager about team alignment.

About the team

Stripe’s Developer Advocacy team, part of our Developer Relations organization, works in service to our developer audience around the world. The team is comprised of software engineers and storytellers, representing Stripe to developer communities, inspiring new and existing users to build on top of the Stripe platform, and helping to shape the future of Stripe’s developer experience.

What you’ll do

As an engineering manager on Developer Relations, you’ll work with a team of talented developer advocates and program managers to ensure that Stripe is delivering the best possible developer experience for our users. You’ll be responsible for leading the Developer Advocacy team in achieving a high level of technical excellence, inspiration and developer engagement, and partner closely with product, design, program management, marketing, legal and other cross-functional teams to maintain a high-quality and consistent developer experience across our product surfaces.


  • Recruit, coach and develop a geographically distributed team of software engineers.
  • Work with leaders across our Product, Partnerships, Marketing and Operations organizations to develop strategies that deliver compelling content to drive understanding of new and existing product integrations.
  • Own and drive relationships with external technical audiences of all kinds — from developer to CTO — to understand business objectives and translate requirements into integrations.
  • Provide structured feedback and work closely with Stripe’s product engineering teams to shape the future of our platform.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • Experience in leading developer advocacy programs, developer evangelism, or developer relations teams
  • An experienced people leader, with previous background in external-facing engineering functions.
  • Experienced in full stack development and software architecture patterns, able to understand how a wide variety of technologies and systems interact with each other.
  • A great communicator, comfortable explaining complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interested in solving open ended business problems with a combination of technology and creative thinking.
  • Experienced working in an API partnership program and driving outcomes in a customer-facing environment.
  • Enthusiastic about educating and enabling others and helping developers solve problems.

Preferred qualifications

  • Has successfully recruited and built great teams.
  • Has worked with geographically distributed teams.
  • Can craft and deliver compelling talks and presentations on developer topics.
  • Works very well cross-functionally and is able to think rigorously, communicate effectively, and make hard decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Thrives on a high level of autonomy and responsibility, while having the ability to dig into technical details to inform decisions.
  • Has at least 3 years of management experience.
  • Has a background working in a similar developer-facing role (e.g. developer advocacy, partner engineering, technical solutions engineering or solutions architecture).
