Interview Process

1. Phone screen with recruiter 2. Technical screen in the form of a pair-programming session to debug and test existing code 3. Final round is a multi-round session that typically includes demonstrations for backend, frontend, and design skills (and they are collaborative in nature) but are not odd Leetcode style questions. There is also a cultural/behavioral fit round, but that does not involve coding/design demonstrations.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining tooling to empower Pie Insurance’s engineers. This position not only works on deliverables directly but will also be an advocate for instilling a company-wide DevOps culture by providing additional knowledge and guidance to Pie’s engineering organization. The candidate will join a team which exists to help provide operational excellence through tooling which generates a multiplying effect by reducing cognitive load on feature-based engineers and reducing repetitive tasks through automation. The candidate can expect to work on a diverse set of greenfield and brownfield projects that encompass all aspects of Pie’s technical platform. The candidate should be able to identify areas of improvement across the organization, generate solutions that are measurable, and iterate to continuously improve on the processes while focusing on results based on the measured data. 

How You’ll Do It

Develop Pie’s Developer Experience by creating Tooling and Automation

  • Build tooling and automation that allow other engineering teams to self-service their infrastructure needs and remove impediments and cross-team dependency.
  • Direct focus on automation and tooling that allows engineers to automatically build in security, reliability, scalability, and observability with the least amount of cognitive load to allow the engineers to deliver value to customers as quickly as possible. 
  • Responsible for advocating for best practices in a Cloud Native environment, and using built-in tooling monitors for resource usage, cost, ownership, and adherence to best practices. 
  • Being an ally during incidents and an active participant in post-incident response. Work with a cross-functional team to quickly and effectively triage and correct service disruptions. 

Technical Leadership

  • Have a results-oriented mindset that delivers measurable value. 
  • Drive excellence across the organization by observing opportunities for improvement and crafting solutions for improvement that provide the best business value. 
  • Actively lead and facilitate code reviews.
  • Thought leadership in DevOps cultural practices.
  • Capable of leading without authority.

The Right Stuff

  • Expert technical experience within AWS
  • 5+ years in software development life cycle using enterprise-level object-oriented programing languages(C# preferred)
  • Expert understanding of common infrastructure architecture patterns and cloud best practices including AWS Lambdas and ECS Fargate
  • Proven track record of owning and leading projects from genesis to completion with measured and quantifiable results, across multiple teams within an organization. 
  • Expert communication with the ability to engage in complex technical discussion across multiple levels within an engineering organization.

Base compensation for position: $180,000 - $245,000

Location Information 

Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
