About the role:
Samsara is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing Backend and Product Infrastructure team. As an Engineering Manager for our SRE function, you will lead a team that designs and develops the infrastructure that powers Samsara’s connected operations cloud. The team is working on scaling infrastructure for long term growth in customers, devices, data volumes, customer usage, new products and new geographies.
In this role, you will work on:
- Infrastructure to ensure reliability of Samsara’s connected operations cloud under high loads
- Tooling for product teams to self-service and own operation of their services and storage in responsive and cost-effective ways
- Abstractions for developers to query or update databases and datastores
- Best practices and support systems for engineers to deliver the best customer experience in the industry
- Actively contributing to building the roadmap for infrastructure at Samsara
- Championing, role modeling, and embedding Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
- Hiring, developing, and leading an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team
Our backend is written in Golang, runs on AWS, and is deployed using Terraform, though direct experience with these technologies is not required.
An ideal candidate has:
- Built or worked on critical production systems using AWS (preferred) or Azure/GCP
- Deep knowledge of operating distributed systems at large scale and implementation best practices
- 8+ years of relevant software engineering work experience
- 2+ years of hands-on technical management experience
- 2+ years experience building platforms and managing multiple stakeholders
