Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Buying something on the internet should take zero seconds. Stripe Checkout works on behalf of merchants and their customers to reduce clicks and optimize conversion to reach the zero second purchase.

For merchants, Checkout is the easiest way to accept money online. Merchants can focus on their business instead of regulations, national borders, and technical requirements. Checkout reduces fraud, increases customer lifetime value, and lowers fees, and the total cost of doing business online.

For our merchants’ customers, Checkout is the best way to buy, anywhere on the web. It’s surprisingly great: an intuitive and transparent purchasing experience with the least work possible for the customer. Checkout understands the full context of each customer and offers a buying experience optimized for them.

What you’ll do

We own the full experience of the product: talking to users to understand their business models and needs, designing both backend and frontend APIs, building the UI that customers see, writing clear docs, and keeping the platform stable and observable. We’re looking for a product-focused engineer who are passionate about API design, high-polish user experiences, accessibility, and frontend infrastructure. You should be excited to dig deeply into a problem domain (the world of payments and online business models), to take on user problems and carefully design the right solution, and to build surprisingly great products rather than merely functional ones.

Responsibilities

  • Build experiences for businesses that range from high growth startups to leading global companies providing them actionable insights they need to be able to scale their online business
  • Craft new products and features that impact millions of people and businesses around the world such as building the fastest and most seamless checkout flow
  • Explore creative opportunities for next-gen payments experience that leverage the depth of Stripe’s payment technology
  • Research the payments domain and internet business models, sometimes talking directly to our users, financial institutions, and lawyers to figure out the right approach
  • Coordinating with other teams at Stripe to ensure we build products that work together consistently and have shared infrastructure that enables our products
  • Mentor other engineers on technical decisions, career advancement, and product ambition

Who you are

  • Previously been in a technical leadership role driving work for large groups of engineers (10+ and/or 3 engineering teams)
  • Experience delivering complex consumer facing products from start to finish
  • A track record of mentoring junior and senior engineers
  • A passion for working with users, great user experience, and API design
  • An appreciation for the importance of good documentation -- internal and external
  • Attention to detail, especially around optimization, performance, accessibility, and reliability
