Senior Backend Engineer (Open-Source/Contributor Success)

The team:

Our Contributor Success team is a new team. This team will play a crucial role in achieving the goals set out in "Build on our Open Core strength" in our company strategy. The teams overall mission is to increase the efficiency, incentive & reward of our contribution process in order to achieve our ambition of supporting & achieving over 1000 community contributors to the Gitlab project! You’ll have an opportunity to grow our community, make it easier to contribute and support various open-source initiatives across the wider ecosystem.

What you'll do in this role:

• Make GitLab contribution process the best and most welcomed in the world.
• Carry out Engineering Contributor Success efforts
• Improve GitLab's Contribution Efficiency and Merge Request Coaching process.
• Coach and lead cohorts of community contributors and ensure their success.
• Provide guidance to community contributors on technical and non-technical aspects.
• Create video resources and blog posts to improve contribution experience.
• Track contribution delivery of the community cohorts you are assigned.
• Nominate community contributors and contribution for recognition.
• Be a permanent member of GitLab MR Coaches.
• Be proficient at one or more MR Coach speciality (Development, Test, Documentation and etc).
• Collaborate with GitLab's Core and Developer Relations teams.
• Participate in Contributor Success team stand-up and agile processes.
• Be a sounding board for our community contributors.
• Participate in GitLab's overall Contributor Success events and processes.

What you'll need to apply:

• Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organizational skills and eyes for quality.
• Share our values, and work in accordance with those values.
• Demonstrated experience with GitLab or other Git-based development platforms.
• Extensive experience developing in Ruby or Go.
• Extensive experience using Git and source control.
• Extensive experience with the Open Source community.
• Track record of contributing to well-known Open Source projects.
• Computer science education or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in the English language, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• You share our values, and work in accordance with those values.

You'll stand out if you bring:

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science.
• Notable ties into the Open Source community.
• Enterprise software company experience.
• Developer platform/tool industry experience.
