Logistics at Mapbox

We are builders. The Logistics team is a group of innovators creating solutions to challenges in the delivery space from resource planning to delivery execution and beyond – and we are growing. We solve complex geospatial data problems and leverage algorithms and statistical analysis for use cases ranging from turn-by-turn navigation to delivery route planning for fleets of thousands of trucks. Our services are at the heart of the operations of our customers’ businesses. We get people, products, and services from start to finish effectively and on time whether it’s delivering people or goods. Our customers are primarily developers, like us. We also sell to more business-oriented users and know we have users with multiple needs; we build and ship solutions from data to APIs to SDKs to applications.
Mapbox Fleet is an integrated mobile and web application platform that consists of two components - a web application for fleet operators to create, optimize, and dispatch routes, and an integrated mobile driver application for drivers to execute on those routes. The mobile driver application is available on both App Store and Google Play.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior FullStack Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and operating significant areas of our logistics services.
In this role, you can expect to:

  • Implement both scalable services and web application interfaces, following best practices for usability, deployment, resilience, and observability.
  • Run and design experiments to evaluate the quality, reliability, and capacity requirements of our user-facing navigation products.
  • Participate in end-to-end feature implementation within the larger navigation team; review code and design documents, shepherd feature releases, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Work with product owners, sales engineering, and management to drive future product direction.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

  • Experience engineering web services in at least one backend language, e.g., Node, TypeScript.
  • Experience in front-end development in React, TypeScript.
  • Experience building highly-available API services within container-based environments (e.g., Docker, ECS, Lambda, Cognito, DynamoDB, etc. on AWS). Proficiency implementing monitoring instrumentation, triaging incidents, resolving customer issues, and continuous product improvement.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and distributed systems (e.g., fault-tolerance, consistency, service discovery, etc.)
  • Experience or interest in solving geospatial problems.
  • Enthusiasm for building components and systems with reliability and long term support in mind.
  • Desire to learn and to teach.
  • English communication skills, allowing daily professional collaboration with colleagues (both verbal and written).
