About the role:

Samsara is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Driver app and Mobile Infrastructure team. The Driver app is Samsara’s flagship mobile application. It is a mission-critical aspect of the lives of 25,000+ enterprise customers and 200,000+ drivers. With a wide range of functionality across Compliance, Routing, Documents & Messaging, and Safety, it is a foundational piece in day-to-day helping our customers succeed with their day-to-day business operations. The mobile infrastructure team builds the app development framework that supports not just the Driver app but all of Samsara’s mobile applications.

In this role, you will: 

  • Participate with senior leadership and cross-functional peers to develop a long-term roadmap and strategy for the Driver app and for the mobile infrastructure.
  • Set quarterly goals and balance product/engineering priorities for maximum impact.
  • Drive planning and execution on the roadmap, delivering features and infrastructure enhancements to delight customers and other mobile developers.
  • Work with senior engineers on the team to evolve and improve mobile development best practices at Samsara.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on customer success, Build for the long term, Growth mindset, Be inclusive, Win as a team) as we expand and scale our mobile presence (more apps across more geographies).
  • Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Experience building scalable, mission-critical mobile applications and/or SaaS applications
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (including listening, speaking, and writing) and ability to work well in a diverse, team-focused environment
  • Strong track record of delivering products and features that customers love
  • Proven record of attracting top-talent and mentoring the team
  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering work experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on technical management experience

An ideal candidate also has:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • Our mobile apps are a combination of native iOS/Android code and react-native. Our backend is in Golang, runs on AWS, and is deployed using Terraform. Direct experience with these technologies is not required but is desirable.
