About the role:
The team is responsible for working on the embedded software for the Samsara Dashcam products for the safety program group, which includes a camera, recording video, performing AI analysis, and streaming. The candidate will be working on product firmware working closely with the full stack and other firmware engineers.

In this role, you will:
- Architect, develop, debug, and test modules written in C, C++, and Golang, to configure, stream, process, and store real-time video and metadata on embedded Linux-based camera products
- Champion software development best practices for performance, scalability, modularity, and robustness.
- Debug and optimize network and system-level performance
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 5+ years of professional industry experience
- Experience with C/C++
- Experience with developing and shipping product code
- Experience working on Linux-based embedded multimedia systems on complex SOCs
- Experience with working on multiple layers of the firmware stack (drivers, middleware, and applications)
- Experience with firmware development on product shipping in volume
- Experience in working on embedded Linux systems with system software being the key focus area
- Bachelors or masters in computer science, engineering or similar
An ideal candidate also has:
- Thrives in an environment that requires rapid deployment and product iteration based on customer feedback
- Evaluates how choices at each layer of the stack affect other layers and the customer experience
- Builds production-ready products with design for test mindset
- Experience in working on camera technology
- Experience with Golang
