1. Take home project that resembles a problem Airtable solves for 2. Five hour on-site which includes a discussion of the project, UI design, discussing architectural tradeoffs, and code debugging.

The Platform Engineering group at Airtable’s mission is to push the boundaries of what creators build on Airtable. Our responsibilities range from building new functionality in the product to enabling third-party developers build custom extensions for the ecosystem. Our team is passionate about serving our users by finding balanced solutions to hard problems; we’re looking for engineers who can navigate ambiguous problem spaces and deliver meaningful results. We’re looking for a highly-experienced front-end leaning fullstack engineer to join us to help define and build some of Airtable’s defining features.

What you'll do

  • Own major initiatives within the Platform team, including multiple tracks of work, and enabling multiple engineering teams to accomplish their goals.
  • Form opinions on viability, risks and tradeoffs in early stages of a project, and iterate on these opinions over the course of the project.
  • Partner with stakeholders (Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Design) in charting the success of this project based on these opinions.
  • Partner with engineers, designers, and other cross-functional partners to understand customer needs and help define the product roadmap.
  • Drive alignment across the engineering organization to tackle technical foundational gaps and influence engineering investments.
  • Be a culture multiplier for the engineering organization by being a role model of Airtable values
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to other engineers and up-level the team.
  • Work on various layers of the stack, primarily in TypeScript, React+HTML+CSS, and Node, to build and maintain new and existing Airtable features.

Who you are

  • You have 12+ years of industry experience with modern full-stack web development, with an emphasis on customer-facing product development.
  • You have a strong understanding of front-end architectures, performance, and debugging techniques
  • You have experience leading the design and implementation of long-term initiatives in close collaboration with cross-functional partners and other stakeholders.
  • You have a solid understanding of engineering best practices and principles of system design. You have applied these principles in building systems and products used by a large number of users and have scaled with user growth.
  • Effective at troubleshooting, debugging, and root causing defects in large scale systems.
  • You take a thoughtful approach to decision making and evaluating trade-offs, knowing when to move fast and when to do things right.
  • You are results-oriented, with an inherent ability to find innovative product changes, translate them into product specs, and finally deliver a higher-quality product.
  • You can build up strong relationships across the organization and cross-functionally. You can tailor your conversation to your audience whether they be a senior executive, a product manager you are collaborating with, or an engineer that you are guiding.
  • You are eager to learn from experiences and people, irrespective of their seniority or domain.
