Senior Engineering Manager, Compute Foundation

We are looking for a compassionate people manager who has previous hands-on engineering experience to join GitHub’s Compute Foundation team. We are looking for an experienced engineering manager to lead a distributed team of engineers building and maintaining the future of compute at GitHub. 

You will lead the Compute Foundation team within our Infrastructure organization, which is responsible for numerous foundational services to support compute platforms (physical, virtual, and cloud) on which many of our production systems run. 

The Compute Foundation team is highly distributed and the right candidate will thrive in an environment of asynchronous communication. We expect you to have excellent written communication skills and be able to create working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe. In this role also you will lead, provide guidance, support and advice to your team.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered through  a strong sense of ownership and belonging

• Participate in hiring and sourcing to build a diverse high performance team of engineers
• Create a shared understanding of decision making, direction, and progress for the team, the company, and the community. 
• Build relationships with partner teams in GitHub and Microsoft.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2 or more years experience managing engineering teams
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail in planning and organization
• Passionate about fostering good engineering practices and processes
• Experience developing a strategy and roadmap for your teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing distributed teams.
• Proficiency with languages such as Go, Ruby, and Bash.
• Knowledge of fundamental infrastructure as code principles
• Evidence of open source advocacy.
• Experience with operations in a large production environment.

Ability to meet GitHub, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position requires you to pass Microsoft's Cloud Screen upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter (Microsoft is GitHub’s parent company).

Minimum salary of $62,200 to maximum $250,600 + bonus + equity + benefits.
